The Art of Being Disapointed Gracefully ,(or Why For Profit Universities Suck)

Those in my tribe understand the irony if this title. I am not the most graceful when faced with disappointment. In fact disappointment makes me cranky at best and irate at worst. Those who have followed my doctoral journey are well aware of the grievances I have experienced with the University of Phoenix and their administrative department. The grievance began with an unresponsive chair and has now ended with a formal grievance that took 4 months to receive a response. After this lack of response, from the administration team and the grievance department, it has been determined that my complaint is unfounded and I am left funding two classes that were a waste of time  and should have been reimbursed because of an inadequate chair and a terrible for profit business model.

When students become nothing more than a revenue center there is something wrong with the  system. My highest student loan  interest rate is currently at 14% which means it is cheaper to buy a house or two  than it is for college students to get an education. The irresponsible lending practices for student education are nothing short of appalling, and it is no wonder that the student loan bubble is predicted to be the cause of the next economic crisis.

I realize that it was my choice to continue my education and strive for my phd, however, when institutions charge more for these degree than students are allowed to borrow, it puts the student in a precarious position . Further, when the university will not take responsibility for subpar instruction or mentorship, they are just reckless and foolhardy.

So what to do next? Wallow in self pity and admit defeat, or drain the savings account and charge up the credit cards. Unfortunately the answer is the latter, suck it up as gracefully as possible and just freaking finish. I may be in financial pain for awhile, but at least I'll be Dr. financial pain. Plus, when this is all said and done I will launch a social media quest to let The world know exactly how I feel about the University of Phoenix and their shotty, at best, administration. Rant over, you may now return to your regularly scheduled programming.
